Phil Back is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and has been practicing the art for over 30 years (started in 1985). He specializes in teaching children martial arts. Mr. Back previously owned and operated "Back's Karate for Kids", a licensed ATA (American Taekwondo Association) academy, for 15 years in the Jeffersonville and Clarksville area. He was an avid tournament competitor for many years, and was ranked in the ATA Top Ten national list for forms and sparring several times. He served as an Assistant Regional Chief of Tournaments for this region, and even earned the opportunity to host two sanctioned tournaments in New Albany, IN, drawing hundreds of competitors from our region and across the US.
 
Mr. Back and SIMA Taekwondo are now proudly affiliated with Global Traditional Martial Arts (GTMA) as a licensee.
 
Mr. Back's style of teaching kids centers around the balance of a structured class, a positive environment of encouragement, and a variety of fun training activities.
 
Mr. Back is a student of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu at SIMA, training under Jason Dempster and his staff of talented black belts. He actively helps as an assistant in the Kids BJJ class as well.
